Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go back to school? Are you curious about college life? If so, then you have certainly stumbled upon the right post because today we have a student's point of view of their experience here at the Interactive College of Technology. The following passage was written by one of our finest students, Michael Rice, who has been a student with us since September 2015 and who is pursuing an associate's degree in Business Information Management.
“I will never get
back into school.” That literally was my attitude, until I came across the
Interactive College of Technology. It wasn’t that I was against going to
college, quite the opposite, really. You see, prior to finding ICT I attended a
different community college that put a bad taste in my mouth, specifically with
how the interactions between the professors and students, as well as advisors
and students, worked. Communication was very difficult at this other
college and I didn’t feel like success was feasible with that school. Living in
my own fear, I chose not to even try to look for a better school for almost two
years.
Thankfully, fate intervened. One day my brother and I were
talking and he mentioned the Interactive College of Technology. He told me that
he was going to school there and that I should at least come up to talk to an
admissions rep before I dismissed it. I was skeptical, but I followed his
suggestion. I called and talked with Ms. Mamas, ICT’s Senior Admissions Rep, to
set up an appointment so I could learn more about the college.
As the days passed leading up to my appointment with Ms.
Mamas, I began to get nervous. As I sat in the office of our admissions
rep my palms began to sweat and all I kept thinking about was my past
experience at the community college I had attended before. Would this be the same? Is this going to be
a waste of my time? Or could this be the thing that will change my life for the
better? Conflicting thoughts were racing through my mind like wildfire, but
alas, the time had come. My interview was about to start.
Ms. Mamas welcomed me into her office with a warm smile.
She also caught me by surprise, as she answered every question I fired at her
with no problem, and in detail, I might add. I expressed my concerns about my
past experience with the other community college I had attended and never once
did she speak negatively about that school, which I found admirable. She
addressed my concerns then went on to explain how ICT could be a perfect fit
for me. She told me about the school’s flexible hours, job placement
program, and how involved the advisors and instructors are with students’
success. The biggest selling point for me was that every day there are always
two advisors on campus and they would be there with me every step of the
way. Given my experience at the school I had attended previously, knowing
that I would always have someone to come to at any time was a huge determining
factor.
After discussing everything that ICT has to offer, I was
given a tour of the campus. As we walked throughout the building, my
anxiety level slowly decreased and I was becoming more and more relaxed. Seeing
all of the awards on the walls that the Interactive College of Technology had
gained over time was reassuring me that this was a school of high quality and that
deciding to go here would be a wonderful decision. Seeing photos of
students who have completed the Microsoft Certification programs, as well as
other accomplishments, all with huge smiles on their faces, was also an
indicator that ICT truly strives for their students’ success. All I could do is
smile back while thinking that one day this will be me, too.
As my tour continued, I was introduced to the Mr. Ellison,
the Campus Director. I was really impressed and I appreciated that he, along
with the rest of the staff, actually took the time to speak to me and make me
feel welcomed, not to mention that everyone I met had remembered my name
after meeting me only once. Crazy, right? This showed me that they truly
took an interest in their students and was one of the many factors that gave me
the confidence to finalize my decision of becoming a student at ICT.
I have been enrolled at ICT for quite some time now,
pursuing a degree in Business Information Management. Since enrolling, I have
also became a work study student in the admissions office, where I’ve been learning
how things work at the school from a professional setting. Not only am I
getting a great education at ICT, but I am also getting great resume building
experience from working in the school’s office. How amazing is that?
In addition to pursuing my education and working at ICT, I
have had the pleasure of meeting some very down to earth people at the school.
Bonding with others who want to progress in life and who share similar goals
and interests as me has really helped me to open up and has contributed to my
success. I started off without any motivation but I have always have
dreamed big. Meeting people here at ICT who genuinely want to help me succeed,
who truly want to see me graduate, is probably one of the best feelings and
gives me a sense of hope that everything I have dreamed of is still very much a
possibility. I could not be more thankful for the entire staff here at
Interactive College of Technology for helping me get on the right track and
continuing to help me succeed. Sometimes you just have to take a chance on
yourself to better your future, and that was exactly what I did by becoming a
student at the Interactive College of Technology.
Don’t take my word for it, though. Find out for yourself
by visiting the school and checking out what they have to offer. It just might
be the first step towards securing a successful future for you and your family. As you can see, the students at ICT are success driven and proud to be here. Find out why by giving us a call at (859) 282-8989. Your future is waiting.
